Data Systems Research Paper

It's not very often that studies on information overload are released, and when they are, they're often too long and complicated to be of any use. Someone out there, however, just released this, which appears to be a research paper they wrote on the topic. It's still a little long, but let me summarize it really quick.

Ultimately, they decide, information inflow can be broken down into three systems:

1. Passive Data, which is essentially non-intrusive and requires the user to be looking for it.
2. Active Data, which is minimally intrusive and appears with or without the user's consent, and can be ignored.
3. Forced Data, which is critically damaging to productivity, appears of its own accord, and cannot be ignored.

The rest of the essay consists of various methods to control each of the types of data systems. If it's something  you might be interested,

Check it out, Data out.
